Goa: BJP Minister Quits Party Ahead of Polls, Likely To Join Congress

Panaji: Just a month ahead of polls in the state, Goa Minister Michael Lobo quit the BJP party on Monday.

While quitting the party, he said, ''BJP is no longer a party of common man''.

However, reacting on the same, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said that a few defections driven by greed would not hurt the party at all.

Meanwhile, according to reports, Lobo is likely to join Congress which is a reversal of the trend in the past few years.

Notably, the Lobo has a strong influence over at least half a dozen of Goa's 40 constituencies which will definitely benefit the congress party, which has been out of power in the state since the 2017 election.

While speaking to media on the same, he asserted that voters apprised him that the saffron party is no more a party of the common people.

"I have resigned from both the posts (minister and MLA). I will see what steps are to be taken next. I have also resigned from the BJP," he added.

He further said that whichever party he will join, he would ensure that they win a maximum number of seats.
