SAN FRANSISCO: The CEO of Google and Alphabet is one of the recipients of the Padma Bhushan for the year 2022. India's Ambassador to the US handed over the award to Sundar Pichai.

Taranjit Singh Sandhu, India's Ambassador to the US mentioned this on Twitter. He expressed his happiness in handing over the award to Sundar Pichai. He also mentioned his inspirational journey from Madurai in Tamil Nadu of India to Mountain View in California and his efforts towards strengthening the ties between India and the US in terms of both economics as well as technology. He also mentioned how he proves India's contribution towards global innovation.

After receiving the awards, the CEO mentioned "I want to thank Ambassador Sandhu and Consul General Prasad for hosting me to receive the Padma Bhushan. I am deeply grateful to the Indian government and the people of India for this immense honour. It is incredibly meaningful to be honoured in this way by the country that shaped me," in his blog.

He also added, "India is a part of me. I carry it with me wherever I go. (Unlike this beautiful award which I will keep somewhere safe)." Sundar Pichai also mentioned that he was very fortunate to be born into a family which was into knowledge and had the option to explore his interests.

The Padma Bhushan award recipient also appreciated the vision of a Digital India by the PM of India and how it is being implemented in the country. He also mentioned about he will be happy to continue investments and partnerships across India for the implementation of several services including internet access, digital skill development and education. He also added about the projects in place to encourage technical development among entrepreneurs and women in India. Special emphasis is being placed to provide information in the local languages of the country.
