GUWAHATI: According to the QS World University Rankings 2024, the Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati, has earned a spot on the list of "World's Top 25 Percent Institutions."

The Institute currently holds the 364th-highest overall ranking in the world and the seventh-best position in India. The Institute has moved up 20 positions globally and 1 position in India as a result.

According to the QS World University Rankings 2024, which were published on June 27, 2023, IIT Guwahati has increased its ranking from 2014 by at least 237 spots, going from 601-650 in 2014 to 364th in 2023. With an average publication per faculty of >5.0 and a position of 32 internationally, IIT Guwahati has the highest research citations per faculty score.

A total of 2963 institutions from throughout the world were assessed for the 2024 edition, and 1503 institutions were ranked. This year, 44 institutions in India were ranked.

In numerous national and international rankings, the institute has continually maintained its high standing. The Institute held the 7th position in the "Engineering" category in the recently released National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) announced by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, and the 9th position in the "Overall" and "Research" Category.

IIT Kharagpur is the fourth-ranked Indian institute, with a ranking of 271, followed by IIT Kanpur at 278, IIT Madras at 285, IIT Guwahati at 364, and IIT Roorkee at 369. The University of Delhi (ranked 407) and Anna University (427) are both new arrivals for India into the top 500 universities in the world.

The top three universities in the world are Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), University of Cambridge, and University of Oxford. Harvard University, ranked number four, Stanford University, ranked number five, Imperial College London, ranked number six, ETH Zurich, ranked number seven, National University of Singapore (NUS), ranked number eight, UCL, ranked ninth, and University of California, Berkeley (UCB), ranked tenth, round out the top ten global universities.
