India Urges the UK to Deport the People Involved in Vandalisation

LONDON: As a development after the incident of vandalization of the Indian High Commission in London, the Indian government has urged the United Kingdom government to deport the individuals involved in the incident.

According to reports, some of the people involved in the incident have Indian Passports and are seeking asylum in the United Kingdom alleging a “political persecution” going on against them in the country. But they are now involved with the Khaistani separatist movement and carry out attacks on other people with origins in India and staying in different parts of the world for various reasons.

One of the main accused, Avtar Singh Khanda has been residing in the United Kingdom for several years now and is one of the prominent leaders of the pro-Khalistan movement. He had also sought asylum in a foreign country claiming to be a victim of political persecution in India. Avtar Singh Khanda was arrested by London Metropolitan Police for vandalising the premises of the Indian High Commission. On March 19, he was the one who climbed onto the balcony of the Indian High Commission, insulted the national flag by pulling it down and then put the Khalistani flag on the flagpole.

The local authorities have also identified Harjeet Singh, Manroop Singh, Mandeep Singh and Rajinder Singh in relation to the incident. All of them hold Indian passports and Overseas Citizenship of India cards for living in the country for several years and are now active members of the separatist movement.

Reports mentioned that these people played a major role in organising protests and inciting violence aimed against the Indian government for taking action against Amritpal Singh in Punjab of India.

The government aims to hold these individuals accountable for the incident and bring them back to the country to conduct a proper investigation regarding the recent incident and has urged the UK government to deport them to India at the earliest.
