ISIS Chief Along With Family Blows Himself Up During US Raids

New Delhi: The leader of Islamic State on Thursday blew himself and family members up during a US military raid in Syria.

The leader named Abu Ibrahim al-Hashemi al-Quraishi, had led the Islamic State since the death of its founder Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi in 2019. Baghdadi too had detonated explosives during a raid by US commandos.

According to reports, Quraishi triggered a blast that also killed members of his own family, including children, in northwestern Syria.

The intensity of the blast was powerful that it hurled bodies of three-storey building where Quraishi was and into surrounding streets in the town of Atmeh.

However, US officials blamed Islamic states for all civilian casualties.

While appreciating the troops, US President Joe said, ''Thanks to the bravery of our troops, this horrible terrorist leader is no more".

''Blast was believed to have killed Quraishi, his two wives and a child on the third floor, and likely a child who was on the second floor with Quraishi's lieutenant and his wife, who were killed after firing on US forces. Two additional fighters were killed after firing on US helicopters,'' Media reports quoted a US official as saying.

According to the US official, Quraishi had been using the house and an unwitting family living on the first floor as a "protective shield''.

Meanwhile, Quraishi death is another major setback for the Islamic state after three years as Baghdadi was killed.
