NEW DELHI: A female citizen of Italy created a ruckus onboard a flight from Abu Dhabi to Mumbai following which she was arrested by police after the plane landed at its destination.

The perpetrator whose name has been revealed as Paola Perruccio boarded a Vistara flight from Abu Dhabi bound for Mumbai. The flight left after midnight from Abu Dhabi and reached Mumbai in the morning.

The woman reportedly demanded a seat in the business class of the flight despite having a ticket for economy class. When denied the free upgradation, she abused and assaulted the cabin crew of the flight before taking off some of her clothes and starting to walk up and down the aisle in a partially naked state. She refused to settle down even after several requests from the crew.

Paola Perruccio was booked by Sahar Police soon after the plane landed and a complaint was registered for her violent and unruly behaviour aboard the flight. She was also served a notice by the police regarding her actions.

A spokesperson from the airline mentioned that the incident has been taken care of as per the Standard Operating Procedures and reports have been given to all the competent authorities. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation also mentioned that the airline had taken immediate and appropriate action regarding the same.

"Vistara stands firm in its zero-tolerance policy against unruly behaviour that endangers the safety, security, and dignity of its customers and staff," added the spokesperson from Vistara.

Reportedly the pilot also had to make regular announcements to calm down and ensure the safety and security of all the other passengers on the flight. Also, steps were taken to inform the ground staff and security forces about the incident so that immediate actions were taken on arrival at the airport.

According to the airline, the pilot made regular announcements to assure the other customers onboard of their safety and security, and the security agencies on-ground were informed to take immediate action upon arrival.

In the statement, Vistara said, "We confirm that there was an unruly passenger on Vistara flight UK 256 operating from Abu Dhabi to Mumbai on January 30, 2023. In view of the continued unruly conduct and violent behaviour, the captain issued a warning card and made a decision to restrain the customer."
