Mr Bean Aka Rowan Atkinson Declared Dead on Twitter, Death Rumours Surface as Hoax
The British actor, comedian and writer Rowan Sebastian Atkinson, who is popularly known for his role as Mr Bean and Johnny Franchise is not dead, but the rumours are spreading all over social media.
The recent development comes after an old hoax about his demise surfaced once again and shocked fans who rushed to Twitter as they couldn't believe that their beloved Mr Bean was dead. He was honoured with the title of 'Commander of the Order of the British Empire', in 2013. This isn't the first time the 66-year-old actor has fallen prey to such malicious death rumours.
The tweet that started the death rumours' read the following message while using the name of Fox News: "FOX BREAKING NEWS: Mr Bean (Rowan Atkinson) died at 58 after a car accident."
Another similar tweet said: "English comedian and actor Rowan Atkinson aka Mr Bean is feared to be dead with reports of the 58-year-old actor getting killed in a car crash on March 18, 2017."
This information also has a factual error as in 2017, Rowan Atkinson was 62 not 58 years old. Users who click the video link will be redirected to a falsified security page prompting them to dial a phone number, according to reports.
Anyone who calls the number will be asked to provide their credit card information in order to purchase a so-called software fix, which will actually riddle the targeted computer with viruses.
According to McAfee, an anti-virus firm, online scammers routinely utilize celebrity rumours to target users with harmful software designed to steal their personal information. Shawn Mendes, the singer, topped McAfee's list of the most dangerous Canadian celebrities to look up online last year.
