Omicron Threat: "It's Better to Cancel Celebrations Than To Die," Says WHO

NEW DELHI: Ahead of the huge celebration of Christmas, WHO (World Health Organization) requested the people worldwide for cancellation of their holiday plans and other celebration so that they can protect themselves from the increasingly spreading deadly disease Omicron, the new covid variant.

The Chief Doctor of World Health Organization (WHO) Tedros Adhanom spoke on the celebration amid the infectious Omicron while addressing the media at a press conference. He stated that canceling the Christmas and New Year plans are far better than risking one's life.

He further said that the decision lied upon the people about what they choose as they must cancel the events or postpone them. Tedros Adhanom added that it's better to extend celebrations than to mourn later.

During his speech, Adhanom informed that if 70% of the entire world's population gets fully vaccinated by the upcoming year, the deadly coronavirus infection could end by 2022.

He mentioned that as the disease is believed to be started in the country of China in 2019, they must give information about its origin to deal with the virus and protect humans from getting infected.

Many countries such as Germany and France have banned traveling in different countries in light of the spreading disease Omicron and already existing COVID-19. While in the Netherlands lockdowns have been imposed during the festive season of Christmas and with this Britain is also expected to impose lockdown in view of the rising Omicron virus.
