Sri Lanka's Coconut Minister climbs a coconut tree to hold press conference

New Delhi: This Sri Lankan minister took his job too seriously and quite literally. In order to drive a point home about coconuts, Sri Lankan State Minister of Coconut, Arundika Fernando climbed a coconut tree. Yes, you read it right. The minister climbed a coconut tree to convey the message to the people on the shortage of coconuts.

The minister climbed a coconut tree, held a coconut in one hand while holding on to the tree with his other hand, and said that the country is facing a scarcity of coconuts. The deficit is as high as 700 million coconuts. This is due to the high demand for coconuts in local industries and high domestic consumption.

The minister said that the government would utilize every available plot of land for the cultivation of coconuts and boost the industry to one which would generate foreign exchange for the country.

It took a lot of effort for the Minister's supporters to get him out of the coconut tree climbing contraption.
