KABUL: The Taliban-led government of Afghanistan took a major decision to reopen the high schools for girl students. The schools were closed since August 2021 after the Taliban came into power in the country.

The Taliban recently announced high schools across the country will be reopened from the month of March this year for educating the girls.

As per the Afghanistan calendar, the month of March marks the first month of the new solar year and as per this, the new academic year starts with March.

Aziz Ahmad Reyan, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Education in a statement on Sunday 23 January stated that the Taliban government is optimistic and committed to the process of reopening the high schools for female students in the country.

Reyan further said that the government is working tirelessly and seriously in order to reopen schools so that girls in Afghanistan can impart education safely.

The spokesperson claimed that girls in the country were not allowed for going to schools since august last year in view of concern over their safety as the Taliban was preparing a safe system of education for all the girls.

Reyan also informed that for a long time Taliban were working on the capacity forming of female teachers, lecturers and professors.

Taliban government was working on increasing the number of female teachers so that these female teachers can be deployed in various educational institutions for girls. The Taliban will make sure that only women teach the girl students in Afghanistan.

The spokesman on Sunday statement also added that in condition if female teachers are not available in some locations or schools in that case the elderly male teachers will be teaching the girl as per the rules by the Taliban.
