Tokyo area shuts down as powerful typhoon lashes Japan

At least four people were reported missing and over 50 others injured after a powerful typhoon lashed Japan's Kyushu island, officials said on Monday. Typhoon Haishen, with its hurricane-like gusty winds and torrential downpours, caused widespread blackouts and forced flights and Shinkansen bullet train services to be cancelled in the affected regions, Xinhua news agency reported. Six prefectures had issued evacuation orders or advisories to some 870,000 people on Monday, with utility companies saying that 300,000 households, mainly in the Kyushu area, have been left without electricity.
