Washington (USA): The United States of America (US) President-elect Joe Biden appointed Sameera Fazili from the Indian-American community as the Deputy Director, National Economic Council at the White House. Fazili is an economic development expert. The Joe Biden-Kamala Harris transition announced the same on Friday.

The economic policymaking process is coordinated by the National Economic Council in the US. It further provides economic policy advice to the US president. Presently, Fazili is the Economic Agency lead on the Biden-Harris Transition. She, who was earlier posted at the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, served as the Director of Engagement for Community and Economic Development.

In the upcoming Biden administration, Sameera Fazili is the second Kashmiri-origin Indian-American, who is appointed to such a key position. Earlier in December, another Indian-American Aisha Shah was given the role of the Partnerships Manager at the White House Office of Digital Strategy.

Earlier during the Obama-Biden administration, Indian-American Fazili served as a senior policy advisor on the National Economic Council of the White House. She also worked as a senior advisor at the US Treasury Department in both Domestic Finance and International Affairs.

Before that, Fazili was a clinical lecturer of law at Yale Law School's community and economic development clinic. She originally belongs from Buffalo. She is currently living in Georgia with her husband and three children. She is a graduate of Yale Law School, where she received her law degree, and Harvard College, where she did her bachelor of arts degree in social studies.

During her time at the Yale Law School's community and economic development clinic, Fazili helped to start a CDFI (community development financial institution) bank and a local anti-foreclosure initiative. She expanded the clinic's work to international microfinance. Fazili also has the feat of working at ShoreBank, the nation's first CDFI bank.
