Volodymyr Zelensky Requests Narendra Modi for Humanitarian Aid

NEW DELHI: The President of Ukraine has written to the Prime Minister of India asking for additional humanitarian aid for the war-devastated country.

The Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister Emine Dzhaparova handed over the latter to Minister of State Meenakshi Lekhi during her three-day visit to India. She had called on the latter to discuss bilateral as well as international issues of mutual interests. The letter from Volodymyr Zelensky to Narendra Modi requested supplies including medical equipment and medicines for the Ukrainian soldiers and citizens.

This is the first official visit by a Ukrainian Minister to India since the war between Ukraine and Russia began more than a year back. India had sent consignments of humanitarian aid to the country during this duration and Volodymyr Zelensky had called Narendra Modi to thank him for the same towards the end of last year.

The two had discussed multiple topics pertaining to the conflict in Europe. Although Ukraine had asked India several times to pressurise Russia to pull its troops back, India maintained its position calling for an immediate ceasefire between the two and solving the differences via diplomacy. Narendra Modi had also spoken to Vladimir Putin regarding the same idea pointing out that the requirements for food, fertilizers and fuel are major concerns across the world.

India, has never failed to send aid to countries which are in need, be it earthquake-affected Turkey and Syria or war-affected Ukraine and is expected to send in the requested aid as soon as possible. But it remains to see how long this war will continue to drag on. While Ukraine has maintained its stand that they have been able to hold its ground against the Russian forces, while Russia mentions that they are making progress on multiple fronts.
