About Assam Secretariat

 Secretariat Administration Department originally formed a part of the Establishment Branch of the Finance Department. In 1930, there were only 5 Secretariat Departments and a few branches with clerical strength of 35 Upper Division assistants and 124 Lower Division Assistants under 5 Head Assistants working under the administrative control of the Registrar who functioned directly under the Chief Secretary.

The Establishment Branch then consisted of an Accountant in charge of the Branch, 2 Upper Division Assistants, 2 Lower Division Assistants and a Diarist. The Nazarat was then a part of the then General and Judicial Department. There was no Issue Branch and the Departments had to do the receipt and issue work themselves till 1939 when this branch was created to centralize issue of dak in the Secretariat.

Due to the Second World War and after attainment of Independence, the work-load increased and with the constitution of many new departments, a separate Secretariat Administration Department was constituted in 1952. It has continued since then and now consists of the branches viz. Establishment (both Gazetted and Non-Gazetted), Nazarat, Accounts, Vehicle, Issue, and Record & Library.

About Assam Secretariat Recruitment 

Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) has released an employment notification for the recruitment of 44 Stenographer Grade-I Vacancy in Assam Secretariat (Janata Bhawan) under Secretariat Administration Department.

Eligibility Criteria of Assam Secretariat Recruitment

Educational Qualification: Candidates should have passed Degree examination or equivalent examination from a recognized University.

Professional Qualification:

# No candidate shall be eligible to sit for speed test at 150 w.p.m in English and 120 w.p.m in Language (Assamese, Bengali and Hindi) unless he/she had passed the speed test at 120 w.p.m in English and 100 w.p.m in Language (Assamese, Bengali and Hindi) conducted by the Board constituted and recognized by the Government.

# Passing the speed test at at 150 w.p.m in English and 120 w.p.m in Language (Assamese, Bengali and Hindi) will make one eligible for appointment as Stenographer Grade –I subject to the condition that appointment to the post of Stenographer Grade –I in English and Language shall be made only after he/she had rendered a minimum 6(six) years of service as Stenographer Grade –II or Grade –III or in both the cadres taken together. Inclusion of names in the select list (both English and Languages) is against the probable vacancies only and it will not confer any right for automatic employment to the selected person.
