Sonitpur: Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) Chief Executive Member (CEM) Promod Boro has said that he and other members of the Council had requested Union Home Minister Amit Shah to release The National Democratic Front of Boroland NDFB (R) leader Ranjan Daimary from jail on "humanitarian grounds".

Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of the 48th annual conference of Nikhil Bodo Student Union in Dhekiajuli, Sonitpur district of Assam, Boro said that he and other members of BTC requested Shah to release Daimary and other jailed Bodo leaders as peace has been established in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) and release of Daimary is also necessary as he too was one of the signatories of the Bodo Peace Accord signed earlier in 2020.

He said, "Due to some legal issues and matters of the law, Ranjan Daimary was sent to jail. We have requested to Home Minister Amit Shah that Daimary should be released on humanitarian grounds," Boro said.

Boro further said that investigations are on into the irregularities in the BTC and anyone found involved would not be spared. Investigations are on into the Rs 2,300 crore liabilities, why did it happen and because of whom. The report would be ready in the next 7-10 days, he added.

Extending New Year greetings to the people of BTR and Assam, Boro said, indeed 2020 has marked as a historic year for the Bodo peoples but it was the saddest year for the whole world as many people had lost their lives due to COVID 19 this year.

He prayed for those who lost their lives primarily due to COVID 19 this year and said that 2021 would be a year of peace and progress particularly for the Bodo people of BTR and said that the Council under him would ensure corruption-free governance to the people of BTR.
