About Transport Department Tripura: The Transport Department functions under the provisions of Section 213 of Motor Vehicle Act, 1988. It is one of the major department of the state. It is functioning in the State through its unit Offices i.e., Office of The Joint Transport Commissioner, Offices of District Transport Officer along with one Checkpost at Churaibari.

The primary thrust areas of the Transport Department are enforcement of Motor Vehicles Act and Rules and collection of Tax. Road Transport is no more the domain of public sector. Private sector has emerged as a strong force in providing efficient transport facilities throughout the Nation.
