About Sikkim Cricket Association (SICA): The British Everest expedition of 1938 led by Eric Shipton was on its way to Tibet when it camped at Lachen in North Sikkim. To while away the time, the members of the expedition decided to have a game of Cricket but not having enough European players, they included the porters to make up the two opposing teams. A bat was made out of a willow tree, umbrellas were used as wickets, and socks were stuffed to make a ball. This was the first recorded Cricket match to be ever played in Sikkim, perhaps the first to be played at such a height (2,728 m), the first time that a team was captained by a native (Karma Paul).
Sikkim Cricket Association (SICA) was formed on 5th May 1987 under the Leadership of Mr Jasbir Singh and Mr N. K. Pradhan, with the primary objective of promoting, encouraging and improving the standard of cricket in Sikkim. Presently, there are around 30 Cricket clubs in Sikkim. Among these clubs, few are registered with the State Government.
