About IIT Mandi 

Indian Institute of Technology Mandi (IIT Mandi) is a public technical and research university located in Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh.

Since the first batch of 97 students joined in July 2009, IIT Mandi has grown to currently host 125 faculty, 1,655 students (enrolled in various undergraduate, postgraduate and research programmes) and 1,141 alumni. Since the inception of the Institute, IIT Mandi faculty have been involved in over 275 Research and Development (R&D) projects worth more than Rs. 120 crore. In the past 10 years, the Institute has signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with as many as 11 international and 12 national universities

IIT Mandi's permanent campus (about 14 km from Mandi) is fully functional on the left bank of the Uhl River at Kamand and Salgi villages in Mandi . Timothy A. Gonsalves is the founding Director (15/1/2010-30/6/2020) of IIT Mandi and R. C. Sawhney served as the first Registrar.Prof. Ajit Kumar Chaturvedi, Director, IIT Roorkee took charge as Acting Director from 1 July 2020.

IIT Mandi is one of eight Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) established by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India in 2008 under The Institutes of Technology (Amendment) Act, 2011 which declares these eight IITs as well as the conversion of Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University to IIT. The Act was passed in the Lok Sabha on 24 March 2011[8] and by the Rajya Sabha on 30 April 2012. IIT Mandi was initially mentored by IIT Roorkee, which hosted the first batch of students.
