MLAs, Open your Eyes

The arterial roads of Guwahati are in a pitiable state, thanks to zero coordination among certain departments of the government. Every day certain portions of roads are dug either for laying pipes, rectifying faulty telecom lines, in name of road repair, etc. After the repairing works are done, the damaged portions of the roads and footpaths are left unattended. Only minor patching is done, which is damaged quickly. For example, the road around Dighalipukhuri was dogged for laying of pipes for the proposed drinking water connection almost one month back. The laying of pipes was completed in 48 hours but the road is not repaired, causing great inconvenience to the people. This is just an example. There are numerous such roads which are dogged by various government departments and which are yet to be repaired. Our MLAs such as Siddharath Bhattacharjee, Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, Atul Bora and others should open your eyes.

Who is Minority?

The Minority Commission report released a few days back revealed some shocking facts. Few States – namely, Mizoram, Nagaland, Jammu and Kashmir, and Mizoram – showed Hindus being outnumbered by other religions but still Hindus are not accorded minority status in those States. The benefits which are enjoyed by other religious communities where they are in minority are not accorded to Hindus in those four States. Even after being officially declared as minority in the above-stated four States, Hindus do not enjoy any benefits. This is really astonishing as all the political parties call for equal rights for all religious communities. The Hindu brethren are deprived of their basic rights. Such deprivation may lead to a call from Hindu communities such as 'Is it a curse to be Hindu?'!

Healthy Sign

The just concluded Indian Premium League (IPL) showcased India's bench strength. The performance of few young cricketers in the tournament was really outstanding. It augurs well for the future of Indian cricket. There is no dearth of talent, and IPL is just the perfect platform for the budding cricketers to show their mettle. Rahul Dravid-coached under-19 cricketers too excelled in their respective departments, which gladdened the hearts of all cricket lovers of the nation. Any nation blessed with strong bench strength is the future champion in the sports concerned.
