We all remember the late Deven Dutta, an eminent professor of English at the then Cotton College, whom I respect for his candid outbursts against any ills of society. Before his demise, Professor Dutta, in a social media interview, in his usual style, very candidly questioned some prominent AASU leaders’ age and duplicity in their dossier. As per AASU’s constitution, the maximum age limit for any AASU member is 42 years. According to the late Dutta, there are many AASU leaders who would have retired from any government post if they were in service. Their full dossier as students of any college would also have been under the cloud if the present AASU leaders were asked to give their credentials, along with their roll numbers and names of the colleges where they are studying. It has become apparent that some politically-backed, over-aged persons are occupying the top AASU posts just to make their future political career.
The anti-CAA agitation totally disrupted the law and order situation, along with the academic atmosphere of Brahmaputra valley, only because the student organisation had and has little presence in the Barak valley. Before parting, I salute the late professor Deven Dutta for his candid comments about AASU.
