Rise of Assamese Film

It is heartening that Assamese movies have started to make good money. A few years back, the situation was totally different. Everybody connected with the Assamese film industry lamented that the prospects of Assamese films were worsening. The producers incurred substantial losses and were quite de-motivated. But the industry survived to gasp. Barring Ashok Kumar Bixoya’s ‘Bukur Majot Jole’ and ‘Hia Dia Nia’ – other films could not fare well in the box office. But Zubeen Garg deserves kudos for blazing a trail in the production of commercially successful films and showing others how to earn handsomely. He pays much importance to publicity, his magical voice playing an important role as he spreads the message throughout Assam to the remotest villages. Jubeen’s feat has been replicated by Jatin Borah whose maiden venture ‘Ratnakar’ is already a grand success. His entire team including flamboyant actress Nishita Goswami, Boroxa Rani Bixoya and child artist Ashramika Saikia did a marvelous job in propagating the film in every nook and corner of Assam. Never before has any Assamese film earned as much as Jatin Borah’s offering, overtaking even Jubeen’s ‘Kanchenjunga’. We the filmgoers are happy beyond measure. Yet another Assamese film which is likely to shine is ‘Amis’; before its release itself, the film was shown in the Film Festival in Guwahati and earned accolades from all quarters. The electronic media too was all praise for the film. May the Assamese film industry climb the ladder of success!
