Baba Harbhajan Singh Memorial Temple in Gangtok, Know Who is Baba Harbhajan Singh

A temple of a different type; a temple dedicated to selflessness and bravery rather than a specific faith. Harbhajan Singh, a Sepoy/Honorary Captain "Baba" in the Indian army, served from 30 June 1965 to 30 June 1966.

He received the Mahavir Chakra, India's second-highest bravery honour, after his death. Harbhajan Singh Baba. He is known as the "Hero of Nathula".

Every soldier in the hostile high-altitude environment of the Eastern Himalayas is said to be protected by his soul. He is thought to have personally led the men to the location. The troops built a Samadhi in his honour, and locals still think that Baba's spirit protects the soldiers stationed here. Baba was considered a soldier who never died by the Indian Army, and he was retired with full honours in December 2016.

Location:

Baba Harbhajan Singh Temple is a one-of-a-kind location located between Nathula and Jelepla passes at an elevation of 13,123 feet and roughly 52 kilometres from Gangtok. At his samadhi, about 4,000 metres above sea level, a shrine was created (13,123 ft). Baba's mythology dates back 35 years, when Sepoy Harbhajan Singh of the 23rd Punjab Regiment went missing while escorting a group of mules from his battalion's Tukla base to Deng Dhukla, both in East Sikkim. The Baba Harbhajan Singh Temple does not charge an entrance fee.

When to visit:

The best time to visit Sikkim's Baba Harbhajan Singh Memorial Temple is from April to November. During these months, the weather remains favorable, allowing you to pay your respects to soldier Harbhajan Singh in comfort. In the winter, the Nathula Pass is closed due to excessive snowfall, making it impossible to reach Baba Harbhajan Singh Temple.

History:

A natural calamity struck Sikkim throughout the year, and he was stationed near the border. When Baba Harbhajan Singh was trying to lead a column of mules carrying supplies, he perished in a glacier. Soon after, some army soldiers set out to find him, and after three days, they discovered his body. Harbhajan Singh is alleged to have assisted other guys in locating his body. He had once requested that one of his coworkers construct a shrine for him.

Harbhajan Singh used to give the squad at least three days' notice before any attacks took place. Even the Chinese held him in high regard and reserved a special place for him for the India-China flag summit.

From then on, he was promoted through the ranks, eventually reaching the rank of captain. His pay was paid on a regular basis, with all of the advantages that his cadre was entitled to, and it was transmitted to his mother.

In 1968, he was slain on the Nathu La pass in eastern Sikkim, India. Harbhajan Singh's early death at the age of 22 has become folklore among Indian Army regulars (jawans), the inhabitants of his village, and reportedly troops of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) across the Indo-Chinese border protecting the Indo-Chinese border between Sikkim and Tibet.

According to popular belief, every army officer who does not dress in a tidy and orderly manner gets slapped by Baba himself. His own clothing, which is on show, does not need to be washed by anybody since it is miraculously cleansed.

In his name, a railway berth is booked and remains unfilled for the duration of the voyage. Every year on September 11th, a train departing from New Jalpaiguri station in West Bengal transports his possessions back to his homeland.

Bhuvan Bam created a short film named 'Plus Minus' in 2018 to capture Singh's life. The limits between mysticism and reality can be blurred at times, and many people believe in the Baba's 'presence' around the eastern borders.

There are numerous stories about this person that set him apart, and many of them include otherworldly sightings and incidents. Even today, several social media posts recount his excursions to the camps, including his usage of bedclothes and footwear.
