The Indian state of Goa is set for its upcoming festival of Carnival, the most loved festival of the state which is scheduled to be celebrated from this week in Panaji.

This Carnival in Goa is known with different names such as Intruz, Carnaval, Viva Carnival and Entrado. Tourists from across the world visit Goa and enjoy the festival along with the residents.

The parades and procession for the Carnival are organized in the most eminent cities of Goa and this year will be the first time in many years that Panaji, the state capital will host the grand festival.

Meanwhile, the city Panaji is already set with massive decorations to host its first beach festival with the sight on the UNESCO Creative Cities Network list.

From the month of December last year, the preparations had begun for the huge observance of the Carnival as streets are decorated with bright lights.

Date & Time:

The celebration of Goa's grand Carnival with start on Saturday 26 February and the event will continue till Tuesday 1st March 2022. The time for the Carnival celebration is 03:00 pm.

The four-day-long festival will be observed in different places of the state starting from Panaji on 26th February, then Margao on 27th February, Vasco (28th February) and Mapusa (1st March).

Significance:

The colourful Carnival processions and parades in Goa are usually held in the month of February before the holy season of Lent that sees devout fast symbolizes the colonial Portuguese legacy of the state.

The festival was introduced by the Portuguese colonizers who were the rulers of Goa for 500 years. It was for the first time observed by the Catholic people.

The festival had attracted thousands of tourists every year due to the incredible vibe that it provides along with unique celebrations.

Various types of Cultural bend along with artworks and music events are organized throughout the four-day-long festival.

The parades are led by the fictitious persona of 'King Momo' and the processions are filled with horse carriages, bullock carts, and colourful balloons.
