History:

The day 29 April was first started to be celebrated as International Dance Day by the Dance Committee of the International Theatre institute which is the main performing arts partner of UNESCO.

In 1982, this day was selected to be observed as International Dance Day and since then ITI (International Theatre Institute) and the International dance Committee every year select a dance personality to write a message.

The day marks the birth anniversary of Jean Georges Noverre who is a French dancer and ballet master known for being the modern ballet dance form into focus.
