How to Take Care of Your Pets This Diwali 2021: Veterinarian Advice & Tips to Protect Pets on Diwali

Protecting the pets during the festival of Diwali is a matter of concern for every pet lover and pet owner. As the festival of light Diwali is celebrated with crackers and loud noises is a festival of fun for human beings but it proves to be dangerous for animals. The festival creates fear among Dogs and other pets causing harm to them. Therefore the pets need much care and attention during such kind of festival. Pet owners and pet lovers should have a responsibility to protect pets by taking care of their health. Pet owners need to help their pets in tolerating the loud noises, fire and other activities affecting the pets.

Leading and known Veterinarian Dr. Ram Dulara put forward his tips to take care of pets and their health during the upcoming Diwali festival this year.

• Keep the pets restricted inside a room

Avoid the pets coming with direct contact with the crackers and other fireworks and let them stay in an area enclosed. Shut down all the doors and windows of the room so that the loud noise cannot reach their ears as these sounds create anxiety in pets. The diyas and other lightning objects should be kept away from pets as they don't understand that this may harm them.

• Cover the ears of pets with earmuffs

Try to keep your pet's ears covered with earmuffs or any soft piece of cloth to avoid the noise created by fireworks. The sound becomes unbearable and hazardous for dogs as their hearing sense is 7 times that of humans so the volume affects them the most. Play soothing music in their surroundings so that they get distracted from outside noise.

• Keep your pets out of reach from sweets of Diwali:

Stop your pet from eating a lot of sweets as eating too much may affect their digestive system. The sweets also may not suit their digestion because of quality issues. During Diwali don't forget to feed your dogs with their regular food and don't feed them with whatever you eat.

• Maintain cleanliness by removing all burnt crackers and chemicals associated with it

During Diwali, a lot of chemical mixed items are used like crackers, pooja materials, rangoli colours and other toxic elements. Make sure that after the celebration everything is removed and the house is cleaned as chemicals are harmful to pets and they may by mistake lick those items with chemicals or end up consuming them. Also, keep in mind electrical connections and remove circuits to prevent your pet from getting electrocuted.

• Keep your pets hydrated:

Water is a very essential need of pets so give them required water to drink in a suitable area. Water will help them in dealing with the anxiety caused by loud noises and fireworks. It is a good suggestion to take your pet to a veterinarian and get an anxiety injection.
