International Day of Forests 2022: Theme, History, Significance, Quotes And Slogans

International Day of Forests (IDF) or World Forests Day is observed every year on 21 March with the objective to create awareness regarding forests and their significance.

It is the day to raise mass awareness among various communities regarding the vital role of forests in ecology and economy including their contributions in balancing the life cycle.

Theme:

According to the CPF (Collaborative Partnership on Forests), the theme for this year's International Day of Forests is 'Forests and sustainable production and consumption.'

Every year the theme for IDF is selected by the CPF which is an innovative voluntary interagency partnership on forests that was founded in 2001.

History of 'World Forest Day':

In 1917, the 16th session of the Conference of the FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization) voted for 'World Forestry Day' after which the CIFOR (Centre for International Forestry Research) organized a total of six Forest Days from the year 2007 to 2012.

On 28 November 2012, the United Nations General Assembly demonstrated the day 21 March as the International Day of Forests.

Significance:

The day holds great significance as it is meant to raise awareness about different types of forests and their value in living beings as forests are an integral part of water, shelter and food.

To combat climate change and for the well-being of the present and future generations, it is important to follow the sustainable management of forests.

On this day of forests, several national and international agencies encourage their agencies to take efforts in organizing activities like various campaigning including tree planting campaigns.

Different initiatives are taken to save forests and motivate others to do the same through active measures beneficial to forests.

Reforestation needs to be the priority for various reasons that include preventing droughts, preserving biodiversity, food security, wind barrier, thermoregulation of the planet, reverse emission and healing humanity.
