Need of the Hour: Economic Rights

The government should take urgent and strict measures to redress economic inequities face by women
Need of the Hour: Economic Rights

Together with other organisations advocating for women's rights, we must fight to make sure that women have full decision-making authority over their own lives and economic situations. We must work to ensure that women have complete freedom over their bodies and economic situations.

Women's rights are undermined by a number of factors, including the prevalence of unpaid care work, low earnings, insecure employment, poor working conditions, and fewer opportunities to acquire, manage, and pass on property. All of the aforementioned are strongly sexist. Women can't hold down full-time jobs and raise families.

If a woman is unable to contribute to the household income, get social security benefits, or own her own home, it has a negative impact on the economy as a whole. It affects her ability to make decisions and her physical security.

Feminine leadership

When women are financially independent, they gain more agency in their lives. They have opportunities to better themselves by going to school, getting well, and settling down on their own land. Their family's financial stability is ensured, and they'll be able to do more of what they want in life.

Having access to a fulfilling career is only one aspect of women's economic rights. Everyone must honour women's right to a fulfilling existence. A place to live and food to eat are also crucial. It is the responsibility of the government to ensure that these people have access to essential public services such as healthcare, education, social protection, veteran and family services, and more.

For what reason are women still being held back in the workplace?

Women in every region of the world are responsible for taking care of their households and families. This requires them to look out for the interests of their children, their extended families, and their houses. This makes it more difficult for women to prioritise their own health while also maintaining their employment, which in turn contributes to the continuation of gender inequity.

Even if women are successful in entering a field that provides financial security, they may still have trouble finding a job that satisfies their need for personal growth. This makes it imperative to select a line of work that enables one to earn a salary sufficient for a comfortable life, ensures continuous employment, and offers benefits that are helpful in the process of raising a family. There are eighteen countries in which men have the legal authority to stop their wives from working outside the home. This is something that is routinely done throughout a wide range of different civilizations.

Typically, a woman's salary is lower than a man's. Generally speaking, women are excluded from discussions about land, resources, and property ownership. This is available in most locations. This violates their legal and economic right to possess and use the resources on which their survival depends. This is a violation of their right to a prosperous life. This makes it impossible for them to provide for themselves.

It's important to consider some extra aspects here. Governments' ability to support public services, social security, and women's rights is hampered by unfair tax arrangements in which major corporations pay little or no tax even when making huge profits. The government's support for women's rights suffers as a result. It is more difficult for governments to protect women's rights. More women than men are affected since they are disproportionately the recipients and providers of public services.

Transforming our culture to better support women

It is only fair that women be allowed to make their own decisions and pursue their own goals without interruption. In order to accomplish this, women require economic rights, inclusion of all basic needs, such as shelter, education, healthcare, land control, fair wages, and security. Having a life free from physical threat is also part of this. Together with other organisations advocating for women's rights, we must fight to make sure that women have full decision-making authority over their own lives and economic situations. We must work to ensure that women have complete freedom over their bodies and economic situations.

We must ask that the government takes the following measures:

To acknowledge, reward, and redistribute the vitally important unpaid care and domestic work that women do, we need to provide high-quality public services and infrastructure that are accessible to both women and men. Only then will we be able to properly recognise, reward, and redistribute this work. These things serve to recognise, reward, and distribute the work that is done by women around the house.

Ensure that women have equal access to social services and retirement benefits, as well as pay equity for the same amount of work.

It is imperative that workers be guaranteed the right to form unions as well as fair compensation.

We must, as soon as is humanly possible, do the following: hold corporations accountable for violations of human rights; battle tax evasion by corporations and lobby for tax systems that are more equitable; put an end to violence against women in the workplace.
