Ramadan 2022 is here and Muslim people across the world are getting ready for the auspicious month to observe fasting and prayers.

According to the Islamic calendar, Ramadan is regarded as the 9th month and the auspicious month starts by the end of the Shaban month.

The dates of Ramadan vary each year based on the lunar calendar and this year it starts on Sunday 3rd April 2022 as the Shaban month ends on Saturday 2nd April 2022.

SIGNIFICANCE:

Fasting called Roza in Ramadan is the most significant part of the month and people observe fasting on the basis of the sighting of the crescent moon. The timings to start fast and to end depend completely on the sighting of the moon.

People keep fast with the belief that it will lead to their spiritual purification in the Holy month of Ramadan and helps them get closer in connection with Allah.

During this month, the Muslims spend most of their time in prayers by staying away from any kind of sinful activities and getting engaged in giving back in the form of charity.

HISTORY:

The term Ramadan is derived from the Arabic word 'ar-ramada the meaning of which is the scorching heat.

It is believed that during this time in the past angel Gabriel disclosed the words of Quran to Islamic prophet Mohammad.

OBSERVATION:

All adult Muslims except those suffering from diseases can observe fasting on this auspicious month of Ramadan.

Fasting starts after 'Sheri' which is considered as a predawn meal to have before the morning Fajr prayer.

Then after the whole day of fasting and prayers, people break the fast with 'Iftar' which is the feast during the Maghreb prayer.
