Taking care of our skin is very essential for our overall health and well-being. It is something we should all pay attention to. Because, if we are not kind to our skin, it will appear dull and dry, and it will also show early signs of ageing. A simple way to keep a check on our skin health is keeping a regular tab on our skincare routine. It is very important to ensure that the texture of our skin is healthy and we have a glowing skin. Skincare trends are ever evolving. The pandemic helped to maintain a skincare routine, as people could not step out from their homes so many focused more on taking care of their skin. From practicing the 10 step Korean skin care routine to skin minimalism, we are seeing changes in the different skin care trends. Keeping that in mind, to maintain a healthy and glowing skin in 2023, we need to say goodbye to a few skincare habits which do more harm than good.

Washing your face excessively

The natural oils produced by the skin are actually very good for us. Washing your face at regular intervals is good to keep the face oil free and dust free, but excessive washing has a very negative impact on your skin. By washing your face excessively, you are harming the barrier of the skin which makes it more prone to rashes and other skin problems. Another major concern that arises from excessive washing of the skin is dryness, as the face is stripped off its natural oils. The skin becomes lifeless and dull, and also becomes more prone to acnes and pimples. It is best advised not to over indulge in new routines. Stick to washing your face twice a day, in the morning and in the evening. Washing your face in the morning helps to remove dead skin cells and give your face a fresher look. Whereas washing your face in the evening sets the skin free by getting rid of accumulated impurities.

Stop Ignoring your Chest and Neck

Your neck and the chest area are the first place where ageing signs appear. Your chest and neck area are the most exposed area of your body. While we have our skin regimes, we tend to ignore our neck and chest area, as a result of which it results is discoloration and redness. The neck and chest area are very sensitive and it should be given the same care as the face, like applying sunscreen. Regular nourishing and massaging will promote a healthy and tighter look.

Using make-up products with SPF, but not using sunscreen

We have seen SPF in make-up products like foundation and BB creams. But SPF in cosmetics do not provide adequate protection to the skin. Sunscreen protects our skin from UV rays. Sunscreen should not be skipped from your skincare routine. A suitable sunscreen in accordance with your skin type helps in protecting your skin from the damages of the harmful UV rays. It is therefore suggested to layer your skin with sunscreen then go ahead with your makeup. SPF in the makeup products will then act as an added bonus.

Using excessive extremes

Skin serums are lightweight products, that come in liquid form or gel. It consists of high concentration of active ingredients that are capable of penetrating deeper into your skin. Serums helps your skin to look younger, healthy and glowing. But excessive use of strong serums with high percentages of active ingredients may undermine the skin's barrier. This may break the skin and even result in pigmentation.

High pigmented make-up

Many of us love wearing make-up. Make-up product enables us to highlight our features and hide our imperfections. But excessive use of makeup comes with many side effects. When you are frequently using highly pigmented cosmetics like blue and green eyeshadow, colored mascaras and kajal, it can cause you discomfort. It is also very challenging to remove the makeup. These causes irritation around the eye area and you may also contact dermatitis.

Practice a healthy diet

Maintaining a healthy diet is a very important for a healthy skin. Consume foods and drinks that do not disrupt your hormones, if you want a better skin. Try to avoid food which is very spicy. As consumption of excessive spicy food may cause skin problem like acnes, rosacea and allergy. Instead consume lots of fruits and green vegetables because they are packed with minerals and anti-oxidants that will help to hydrate your skin from inside out.

Sleep Soundly

A sound sleep is very essential, as our body's regeneration process is accelerated by sleep. It helps to maintain a constant rate of cell turnover. Lack of adequate sleep reduces the production of collagen, which maintains healthy, wrinkle free skin and regulated stress hormone.
