New Delhi: According to a study published in Nature, the food ordered from several fast-food giants such as McDonald's, Burger King, Domino's, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell and Chipotle were found to contain phthalates, a chemical that is used to keep plastic plastics soft.

The source of contamination in the food with plasticizers has been suspected to be gloves on which the same chemical have been found.

The study has revealed pieces of evidence that further supports this hypothesis. The chemicals were found in greater quantity in burritos than hamburgers. However, no contamination was found in fries, as they do not require to be touched at all.

However, the evidence was not enough to conclude the study.

Phthalates are known to have caused a number of health issues in adults and children. They have been found to be related to almost every health issue in adults, ranging from reproductive issues to endocrine system problems.

The need to regulate phthalates in food has been stressed by the National Institutes of Health for the protection of the development of the brain in children as the chemical have been linked to ADHD and behavioural disorders.

The FDA has expressed their acknowledgement of the study but is yet to take any action.
