People have a habit of taking vitamin supplements instead of consuming a healthy diet of fresh fruits and vegetables or end up skipping meals due to work schedules to enhance overall health. Vitamin supplements don’t prevent cardiovascular problems.

A new study by a group of biologists and doctors has analyzed that the link between multivitamins and mineral supplements and the risk of certain cardiovascular problems. Researchers after analyzing over two million people in five countries for an average of 12 years, suggested that vitamins and minerals do not prevent heart attack, strokes or death from heart diseases.

It is very hard to convince people as for the past two to three decades, they have been popping these pills thinking that multivitamin and mineral supplements don’t prevent cardiovascular diseases and there is no data to support that having multivitamins will reduce your heart risk.

Meanwhile, Dr. Joonseok Kim stated that in his opinion, he believed that these study findings help decrease the hype around multivitamin and mineral supplements and encourage people for a healthy diet.

It will help to encourage people to use proven methods to reduce their risk of cardiovascular diseases such as eating more fruits and vegetables, exercising and avoiding tobacco and go out in the sun, as naturally available vitamins are better for health rather than supplements. Before starting over-the-counter multivitamin or antioxidant pills, one must consult a doctor.

There is no substitute for good nutrition rather than fresh fruits and vegetables and regular exercise. The regular lifestyle modification in the form of regular 30 minutes of aerobic exercise a day, healthy diet, reducing of smoking, control of blood sugar and blood pressure are most important.

Despite of a healthy diet, level of iron and vitamins gets lower and deficiency occurs in blood. The patient those who are suffering from deficiency should consult with a physician before starting any supplements. Patient has severe blood loss or malabsorption syndrome, they will not be able to take an oral diet, then these supplements should be added after consultation.
