Polyamory means, having several relationships with the
permission of all partners.
Polyamory, which literally means "many loves" in Latin, was originally defined in the 1960s. Speaking with poly people rapidly reveals that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to being poly.
Polyamorous persons experience numerous loving, deliberate relationships. It is sort of non-monogamous or open partnership that adheres to particular rules. This term used to describe persons involved in numerous romantic relationships at the same time.
Research on 340 polyamorous people, polyam partnerships endure on average eight years. A main committed pair is the most common polyam partnership, with each member free to pursue other relationships.
Monogamous experiences have resulted in social isolation and controlling behaviour from partners in certain cases, polyamory has its own set of issues, including deceit, manipulation, and bad sexual health practices.
Not just in India, but also in the West, polyamory is a taboo subject. 'You, Me, and Her,' a Netflix series, is a rare representation of such a partnership in popular culture. Bengaluru is home to a diverse range of groups, including the polyamorous population.
Polygamy is strictly prohibited in India. Indian Penal Code, 1860, it has been deemed a crime. Hindu Marriage Act of 1955, a marriage solemnized while the present spouse is still alive is invalid and criminal under the Indian Penal Code. A Muslim man is still allowed to have four wives at the same time under Islamic law. For Muslim women, however, there is no such practice.
