World Wetlands Day 2022: Theme, Significance, Celebration And Slogans Of The Day

World Wetlands Day is celebrated every year on 2 February in different part parts of the world with the aim to raise global awareness about the significance of wetlands.

World Wetlands Day marks the date of the Convention on Wetlands adoption which was adopted on 2nd February in the year 1971 in Ramsar, Iran.

On this day of Wetlands importance, global awareness is raised not just among the people of the country but also for the planet Earth. The day is observed through different public awareness pragammes since 1997.

This year World Wetlands Day will be observed as UN international day following the adaption of Wetlands resolution 75/317 as Worlds Wetlands day on 30 August 2021. In the current year, 2nd February got the official recognition by the UN General Assembly

What are Wetlands?

Wetlands are flooded and marshy swamps and regions help in the formation of different varieties of life forms. Wetlands can be naturally formed and also be artificial and to enhance ecological health and biodiversity both natural and artificial wetlands play a very significant role.

THEME:

A call to take action for wetlands is the main focus for the World Wetlands Day campaign 2022 as per the United Nations. It aims to call for taking action in concern of the wetlands for the well-being of the people and also for the environment.

The theme for this year's World Wetlands Day is Wetlands Action for People and Nature.

The theme is explained as a request to save and invest human, political and financial capital in order to save the wetlands across the globe from becoming extinct. The theme suggests restoring the wetlands that are destroyed by humans and degraded for various purposes.

SIGNIFICANCE:

Worlds Wetlands Day holds great significance in maintaining biodiversity across the globe and in diminishing the impact on climate. It is the day to raise awareness through different activities to help the growth in nature and for the availability of fresh water on the planet.

CELEBRATION:

World Wetlands Day is celebrated by organizing various public awareness activities that help in motivating people for their role in protecting nature.

Many programmes about the preservation of wetlands are held to make people understand about the value of wetlands and their benefits for a human being.

Various posters and logos are made and shared among the masses to educate them regarding the fact that why preserving the wetlands is a crucial need for mankind.

A month-long Youth Photo Contest is held on the World Wetlands Day website every year since 2015 with the purpose of educating youth about the conservation of wetlands. The winning person gets the opportunity to visit their favourite wetland.
