4% hike in Dearness Allowance will benefit lakhs of central govt employees & pensioners

NEW DELHI: Union Minister Prakash Javadekar on Friday made an announcement to hike Dearness Allowance by 4 % (from 17 % to 21 %). The raise which will be effective from January 1, 2020 will benefit 4.8 million govt employees, 6.5 million pensioners.

A sum of Rs 14,595 crore as additional expense will be incurred by the government due to this hike.

Javadekar said, “48 lakh central employees and 65 lakh pensioners get government gift, government increased dearness allowance by 4%, it will benefit one crore 13 lakh families.”

“The MSP of copra, which is prepared especially in South India, has been increased, first its rate is Rs. 9521. Was but now it has been increased by Rs 439 to Rs 9960. 30 lakh farmers will be benefited by this,” he added.

The decisions were announced during a Cabinet Briefing in New Delhi.
