The Middle East (or more commonly known as the Near East) is an extended region in Southwest Asia, Southeast Europe, and North East Africa. It has no clear boundary line; the term is often used as a synonym for Near East, as opposed to Far East. As per the information available on Wikipedia, the term Middle East originated in the United Kingdom around 1900.

The Middle East, in its broadest form, is a very old region. Western scholars often refer to it as the starting point of civilization because it was the birthplace of Judaism, Christianity and Islam and many other beliefs. The fertile moon refers to the area that was between the Tigris River and the Euphrates River in present-day southern Iraq.

When it comes to countries in this region, the Middle East includes 18 countries. These are Bahrain, Cyprus, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the Syrian Arab Republic, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates and Yemen.

It is separated from Israel and Egypt by the Gulf of Aqaba and surrounded by Oman, United Arab Emirates, Yemen, Qatar, Bahrain, Jordan and Iraq. This is the only state with coastlines on both the Persian Gulf and the Red Sea.

When it comes to business in the Middle East countries, most of them are dependent on exporting oil be it a crude oil or the purest form of oil like aviation oil and petrol. The economy of these countries mainly depends on the oil. Petrol was discovered in 1938 in Saudi Arabia which changes its fortunes completely. From a barren and desolate country it turned into a glittering country. Saudi Arabia has become the world's largest oil producer. Petroleum contributes much more in the Saudi economy as compare to any other businesses.
