Dwivedi, Executive Director of Tea Board, Arunita Phukan Yadav, Director of Tea Research Association (TRA), Dr A K Barooah and tea industry representatives, today at the conference room of the Guwahati Tea Auction Centre (GTAC).

Minister Patowary has lauded the initiative taken by 110 years old Tocklai Tea Research Institute of TRA in making an educational video which will be of help for tea growers and tea manufacturers. He said that the Tocklai ballometric video released today should be made available to all districts and DICs so that the small growers and BLF sectors can be trained and called Tocklai to take the quality drive forward.

"Good tea cannot be produced from poor quality green leaf. Quality assessment is made using the simple Ballometric count method. Although everyone understands it, all stakeholders have a tendency to confuse themselves, either for their vested interests, or for some reason rooted in social issues. As scientists, it is our duty to devise a robust fine leaf assessment method, which we have done. As Tea Board, it is our responsibility to ensure maximum dissemination of this method, so that count controversy becomes a problem of the past", said Prabhat Bezboruah, Chairman TRA & Chairman Tea Board.

Dr A K Barooah Director Tocklai said, "The video on ballometric method of determining fine count should remove any doubts of determining fine leaf percentage. He also stressed the need to adherence of quality to safeguard Assam tea and thanked Government of Assam for the special initiative recently as a result of which the leaf quality has started picking up in the state".

"As per Tocklai, Fine leaf means 1 leaf + Bud, 2 leaf + Bud, Single soft banjhi. A factory can produce better quality tea if the fine percentage of green tea leaf is more," said Bidyananda Barkakoty, Council Member of TRA, stated a press release.
