Research has always been regarded as a pivotal step forward. It is often ac-
knowledged as the cornerstone of progress and development. Research has undergone a paradigm shift, evolving into a well-defined concept that empowers researchers to undertake meaningful studies.

Research holds no value if it does not benefit society. Society must be the ultimate recipient of the outcomes of research. Without addressing societal needs, research loses its purpose. It can be observed that in the revolutionary and modern era, society faces a multitude of new challenges. The contemporary world has embraced fresh perspectives, granting people greater access to global opportunities. This has led to evolving needs and desires, along with a growing aspiration for a higher standard of living.

Research holds true value when it contributes to the betterment of society.

While research has existed for decades, its importance has grown significantly as the world continues to broaden its horizons. Research and society share a strong connection, yet many studies have struggled to make a significant impact. With the growing needs of the society, the researchers’ today are bound to recognise and focus on this link.

Innovation is the key to challenges.

Such needs and desires can be addressed with the help of innovation, as it is considered essential for the survival and progress of the world. Leveraging existing resources effectively can lead to the creation of meaningful and practical solutions. The potential solutions must be supported through research, as it is the driving force behind innovation and progress. Without research, the generation and validation of innovation ideas become nearly impossible. Research plays a pivotal role in bridging the gap between ideas and actionable solutions, ensuring that developments are not only creative but also practical and evidence-based.

Ideas should be transformed

into actions that deliver

meaningful outcomes.

Also, certain societal needs can often be addressed through a focus on sustainability. Research helps in exploring innovations aimed at sustaining resources or products, ensuring their longevity and efficient use. This approach not only preserves essential assets but also meets the evolving needs effectively. Innovation can bridge gaps to achieve sustainability, with both driven and supported by research. Here, the idea of research refers to the one that is comprehensive in nature.

An innovation becomes truly effective when it is shaped by diverse minds working together. To meet societal needs, it is essential for researchers to harness the synergy of various disciplines, collaborating to create impactful solutions.

With NEP 2020 in today’s education system, the students have been introduced to a holistic and wide approach. It has widened the doors of knowledge by bringing in collaborations. In terms of research as well, it has highlighted the necessity of multidisciplinary research. It can be stated as a significant advancement emphasized.  This shift reflects the pressing need for development in today’s interconnected world. It highlights the interdependence of various fields of study, demonstrating that to innovate sustainably or sustain innovation, multidisciplinary research is indispensable.

Genuine innovation emerges from the fusion of ideas across diverse domains.

Researchers have increasingly started to adapt this approach in research. The need can be felt, and therefore collaborative research work has been initiated. The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 places significant emphasis on multidisciplinary research, recognising it as a cornerstone for innovation and holistic development. By encouraging collaboration across diverse fields of study, the policy aims to break down silos in education and research, fostering a more integrated approach to addressing complex global challenges. NEP 2020 underscores the importance of interdisciplinary synergy to drive sustainable solutions, enhance knowledge creation, and equip researchers with the tools needed to thrive in a rapidly evolving world. Research is no longer an individual pursuit; it must be viewed as a collective effort aimed at benefiting society. Researchers must recognize that their work has the potential to drive societal growth and development. Furthermore, the boundaries between disciplines are increasingly blurred, providing unlimited access to resources and knowledge from allied fields to enhance research endeavours.

For many years, traditional academic approaches emphasized discipline-specific research, with little focus on integrating knowledge across multiple fields. This narrow perspective often limited the scope of innovation and problem-solving by confining research within the boundaries of specialized domains. Recognizing this limitation, the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 has brought significant attention to the importance of multidisciplinary research. It advocates for breaking silos and promoting cross-disciplinary collaboration, fostering an environment where diverse perspectives converge to address complex, real-world challenges. This paradigm shift not only broadens the horizons of academic inquiry but also prepares students and researchers to tackle global issues with a more holistic and interconnected understanding.

The most effective solutions often emerge from the intersection of multiple disciplines.

To sustain and further the adoption of a multidisciplinary research approach, it is crucial to educate students about its significance. Providing them with a clear understanding of the value and impact of integrating multiple disciplines is the first step. When students recognize how this approach fosters innovation, addresses complex societal challenges, and enhances problem-solving capabilities, they are more likely to embrace it as a viable path for academic and professional growth.

Educational institutions play a pivotal role in this transformation. By embedding the principles of multidisciplinary research into the curriculum, organizing workshops, and providing real-world examples, educators can inspire students to explore diverse research avenues. Encouraging collaborations across departments and offering hands-on experiences in interdisciplinary projects will further reinforce the importance of this approach. Once students grasp the potential of combining perspectives from various fields, they will be better equipped and motivated to pursue research opportunities that break traditional boundaries, ultimately contributing to more holistic and impactful outcomes.

Educational institutions play a vital role in fostering the mindset and skills necessary for multidisciplinary research among students.

Research collaborations transcend disciplinary boundaries and should be embraced by young researchers. It’s crucial for them to recognize the importance of thinking beyond traditional limits when pursuing innovation or conducting research. The growing opportunities for multidisciplinary collaboration have unlocked a wide array of possibilities. Additionally, access to institutional resources like advanced laboratories and incubation centres further empowers researchers to explore and innovate effectively. Research has significantly evolved, transforming into a multidisciplinary endeavour that has reaffirmed its importance across all fields in the real world. In essence, research can transcend boundaries when this concept remains firmly established.
