Closure of LIC, Itanagar Branch

Closure of LIC, Itanagar Branch

Recently, I visited Naharlagun, my birth place, and the capital complex of Arunachal Pradesh. To refresh old memories, I wanted to visit the LIC Branch there, which, for whatsoever reason, was situated in Naharlagun. To my surprise, I found that the office had been evacuated. What I understood was that the LIC building had been vandalized by mobs in the recent riots, and the landowners had forced LIC to vacate the premises.

Everywhere in India, normally local and State Government authorities take sufficient care so that institutions like LIC, SBI, post offices, nationalized banks, oil marketing companies, etc. operate normally. The circumstances under which the LIC Office was shutdown, is quite bizarre. Yet, the State Government, especially the local authorities, has not taken adequate care for continuing normal functioning of LIC office.

It is extremely sad and painfull, especially when the same coalition is in power both in the State and at the Centre. And, LIC, indeed, is 100% owned by the Central Government. Hope this letter would alert the authorities concerned, and LIC would be able to resume its services in Naharlagun, Itanagar Office.

D Bhutia,

Guwahati.
