Concept of Floating House in Flood

Concept of Floating House in Flood

J.N. Khataniar, an eminent Civil Engineer of Guwahati, developed an engineering concept of floating house in flood-prone areas. The house is being designed as a model with predesigned as a model light gauge steep frame structure (LGSFS) over a platform having no foundation, fixed to PVC chambers and having less weight and costing less. The house will be constructed over the LGSFS platform as per plan and design based on floor area requirements. Over the floating platform, there could be provisions for bio-toilet, a store room for storage of food materials, rain water collecting chamber for drinking purpose and space for keeping domestic animals during floods along with solar power panels on the sloped roof to get electricity.

It is really a good device at the time of flood. It is highly welcome. I would like to request the government, NGOs and other agencies to sponsor it in the interest of the public in view of devastating floods in Assam. At the same time, the concept should be forwarded to the Prime Minister, the Chief Minister and all authorities concerned with a request to include the project under the Prime Minister Awas Yojana (PMAJ) for the flood-prone areas of the country.
