Since declaration of lockdown to prevent spreading of coronavirus the sole obsession of the State government remains how to take the bull by the horn and in doing so how to maintain a strong coffer. Meanwhile, the number of COVID-19 cases is increasing in Assam by leaps and bounds and the crux of the question at the moment is to meet the burgeoning expenses. We could see the State government leaving no stone unturned to meet the ever-increasing expenses. We believe, at this juncture the State government officials in league with the bureaucrats and our people's representatives must not do any act of sabotage and should go all out to extend their helping hands honestly. But as is seen everywhere, some people are incorrigible. This is exactly what happened in Goalpara in transporting coal loaded in a good number of trucks illegally. So, an opulent business is on in full-swing. We talk of coal syndicate carried out openly with the blessing of some at the helm of affairs. As we viewed the evening news aired by an electronic channel in 'Breaking News', we could repeatedly come across portion that the illegal trade was carried out with the tacit blessings of the BJP MLA and S.P. of Goalpara. The news further added that the government is deprived of quite a good sum of money by way of GST and other taxes. We common people find it difficult to understand why our State government is slackening the grip.
