Irony of fate

Sometime back in 1950s, the then Minister Late Sadullah brought hordes of people from East Pakistan as farmers under the slogan of 'grow more food' into Assam. Those people were provided the fertile lands of the state for farming. Late Sadullah asked the natives sons/daughters of the soil to close their eyes and relax. At that time they had the spade and we the original inhabitants had lands and now after 60-65 years they have the spade as well as land and the original inhabitants have neither the land nor spade. What an irony of fate indeed!

Minor domestic help tortured

Our language falls short to condemn the despicable act of Dr. Siddhi Prasad Deori and his wife Dr. Mitali Konwar in which they tortured a domestic help. The reaction of which now has become all pervasive. The allegation on Dibrugarh police is that they failed to nab the duo even though they visited the residence of the culprits. Next day, as the pressure from all fronts keep mounting on the police they came for second time to arrest them but this time they made their escape. Then the police nabbed their son when he was hiding at Ghoramora. Meanwhile, Dibrugarh and Moran were (Dr.Mitali Konwar is the principal of Moran college) rocked by slogan shouting protesters against the heinous crime. Interestingly, in the evening news bulletin of electronic media we came across the news that a BJP stalwart is in touch with the police to free culprits offering hefty bribe to a high official of Dibrugarh police. Now, it remains to be seen what turn the incident takes. We have to wait and watch.
