Economic recovery: Letters to The Editor

It is often heard that politics is a dirty game and at least play it with clean hands. Those who have good image in society, generally avoid politics. They keep themselves away from politics thinking it may bring stain to their personalities and to their names and fame.

It's true that present political arena of the entire nation cannot be graded as ideal. A large number of leaders who have criminal cases against their names, who have various allegations against their names, are seen taking active part in politics. Obviously no positive changes can be expected from this section of people. They join politics only because it's their only shelter. They have neither any mission nor any innovative ideas.

It's often said that youths are the future of a nation. So, participation of new generation in politics is indeed welcoming. But it's upsetting that today a section of youth takes active part in politics, not for social interest. Instead, just for some calculations, for some personal benefits. They know nothing about the ideology of that particular political party. Just for some material benefits, they do what they have been asked to do. This section spreads some calculated rumours in the society with a view to making the whole environment poisonous, intentionally. Today in social media, it is often found that a section is busy in sharing some fake posts. Not only this, sometimes they edit some pictures and upload these in social media with some calculated captions for some specific purposes. This section follows everything blindly, no matter what impact it may have on the society because of their irresponsible activities. They need money, they want power, they want the blessings of some political leaders to carry on some dark chapters and to fulfill their hidden motives. Whether it is morality or value judgment, responsibility for society, for country, nothing is seen in the behaviour of these so-called politicians, so-called supporters. These so-called leaders make the whole environment of the country a poisonous one. They try to add political colour everywhere and make politics a dirty game. Hence, people having some good names in society try to maintain a safe distance from politics.

But the challenging question is that is it right to make a safe distance from politics just because it's a challenging field or just because it is termed as dirty. Isn't it a cowardly attitude? Politics is indeed the backbone of a country. Rise and fall of a nation undoubtedly depends on politics. Just for afraid of losing image, if someone avoids politics, is it a daring act? It's indeed a great question, a challenging question.

It's crystal clear that without politics, a nation can't stand at any point. Whatever it is national or international issues, sound diplomatic policies are very much essential for a country to set up a name in the international arena. It's only possible if the political leaders of the country are efficient and have patriotism in true sense. To have such great leaders in a country, good and skilled people of the country they must join in politics. Especially, the youths should take active participation in politics with a motto to serve the nation and its people. Instead, if politics becomes the shelter for criminals, corrupt people, selfish and dishonest people, nothing good can be expected from them. A country can never fulfill the goal of all-round development under such conditions.

It's obvious that if good and skilled people stay away from politics, a nation can't stand. This is because one can't expect any positive change from corrupt leaders or criminals. Then who will take the responsibility of all-round development of the country or who will lead the nation? It's indeed a great question. It's easy to criticize someone from outside, but hard to lead from the front. The real daring act is to enter in politics and build the nation facing all the challenges boldly, instead of criticizing the politicians all the time.

In Delhi, Chief Minister Aravind Kejriwal has already proved the importance of participation of skilled people in politics. He has rightly proved that if one has will power and strong determination, if one has love for the people and for the country, one can do anything possible. So, participation of young, energetic, enthusiastic and innovative people in politics is very important. Moreover, people should have selfless love for the country. It's obvious that if one has patriotism, one can't cheat the country and its people. Rather his responsibility for country or society will make him more conscious and dedicated towards the nation.

In fact, it must be said that though today's politics seems to be not ideal, politics itself, is not a disaster. Rather people make it disastrous. In other words, politics without ethics is a disaster. Politics with morality and value judgment is very much needed in today's society. If socially responsible citizens, honest and skilled people join politics, it will surely bring some positive changes to the society and make the world a better place to live in.

Economic recovery

It is a matter of some satisfaction that the Indian economy, which had sunk to a record low during the lockdown, is on the road to recovery. It was not expected by any economic expert. Besides, GST collections crossed Rs 1 lakh crore in October and power consumption has gone up. More efforts should be explored to hasten economic recovery.

Deplorable road

As the development of a place depends on the economic sector, so does the transportation system play an important role. Due to the underdeveloped transport system and the moribund condition of the roads, the well-educated villagers of Hindumaijali have to suffer more during the rainy season as well as during the dry season. The present condition of the Hindumaijali-Malibari rural road connecting Salmara-Andherighat PWD road under Kamalpur constituency is critical. Most of the potholes on the Hindumaijali-Malibari road, which is frequented by a large number of people every day, have caused inconvenience to all people, especially students of Pub-Kamrup High School. This is because the condition of the Salmara-Andherighat PWD road connecting Darrang district border to the above mentioned school road is very deplorable. The paving work of Padum Pukhuri road from Pub-Kamrup High School Chowk under the Paved Road Construction Scheme under the annual plan of 2015-2016 was inaugurated by the then MLA Jadab Chandra Deka though the work has not been completed. The villagers and myself have personally applied to the departmental authorities to start the road paving work but to no avail. However, in this letter, I would like to humbly request Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, the PWD Minister of the government of Assam to take steps to complete the paving of the unfinished road.

Divyangjan needs social acceptance

On December 3, International Day of Persons with Disabilities was observed around the world. The observance of the Day aims to promote an understanding of disability issues and mobilize support for the dignity, rights, and well-being of persons with disabilities. The differently-abled (Divyangjan) community has been facing its own set of challenges. The condition of the Divyangjan in India is really worrying. Their social and economic conditions are also more difficult as compared to the common people. The government has also introduced various schemes to empower Divyangjan, but only rehabilitation and educational services have established their identity in society. They are neglected in society and the perception towards disabled people is biased. Today, Divyangjan needs social acceptance in society. Foremost, they are people like us. Divyangjan can move forward with their challenges by the positive coordination of society. We should respect their diversity and boost them to come up in the mainstream. This is the need of the hour.
