Attention GMDA/GMC!

Earth-filling is going on in the Bahini River/drain on the backside of a hotel which is being constructed. The hotel in question is located just by the side of the hotel Shoolin Grand at Rukminigaon. Earth-filling is going on slowly and silently on a running water drain without any hindrance. While the administration is busy on election work, taking advantage of the same, an unscrupulous businessman (the proposed hotel owner) is busy in expanding his area by putting soil on the drain. Such an act is highly punishable. The owner must be brought to book. At the same time the owner must be forced to restore the area/drain to its original position immediately. It isEarth-filling is going on in the Bahini River/drain on the backside of a hotel which is being constructed. The hotel in question is located just by the side of the hotel Shoolin Grand at Rukminigaon. Earth-filling is going on slowly and silently on a running water drain without any hindrance. While the administration is busy on election w sad to state that it is the people who have already converted Bahini River to a small drain over the years. What would happen when the drain is squeezed further?

Moreover, it results in inundating the Housefed Campus, even in a small shower, which is situated along the side of the drain. It is also true that the drain is not being cleaned/ maintained properly by the GMDA/GMC. The people of Housefed Apartment only have to bear the brunt during rainy days. The private residents of Housefed Apartment could not get rid of muck and dirty water entering their flats even by adopting various measures and spending a lot of money every year. This is deplorable and unfortunate as well. Hence, GMDA/GMC has been requested to stop further encroachment of the drain immediately.

Reckless driving

Through this column of your esteemed newspaper, I wish to draw the attention of the authorities concerned and the general public towards the issue of reckless driving. Reckless driving has become the order of the day. So many accidents take place every day on the city roads. Drivers play with the lives of children and old persons. Young boys feel the thrill of speed and they do not follow traffic rules.

Traffic rules must be obeyed. Under-aged drivers and those driving without licence should be punished.

Fruits of IPL

IPL is just round the corner and thankfully this year it would be held in India. IPL has always been a blessing for Indian cricket. It has provided perfect platform for all the budding cricketers to showcase their talents. Team India has been richer by products of IPL over the years. Jewels like Rishabh Pant, Pandya brothers, Bumrah, Surya Kumar Yadav, and others are all the products of IPL. Cricket is religion, passion, obsession for the Indians. The BCCI, the richest sports body in India has maintained its professional ethics which has resulted in spreading the game in every nook and corner of the country. That is obviously a good sign as lot of players have emerged from small towns, the best example is legend MS Dhoni. Like IPL, NBA, EPL, Spanish League, Italian league, MSL, are all franchise based which have contributed in producing top-level basketball, soccer and American baseball players in their respective countries. In those league greats of the game like Micheal Jordan, Lionel Messi, Gary Linekar, Rudd Gulit, and others have enrolled themselves in the auction list and played for different clubs thus making a name for themselves. The most important thing about franchise league like IPL is that it provides a livelihood to players who unfortunately miss out playing for the national team.

It is often noticed that cricket is blamed for less popularity or success of other games and sports in India. We often hear some public blaming TV channels for more popularity of cricket therefore that group wants to ban live telecast of the game. This is outrageous. Instead of thinking ways to develop the other sports, a certain section wants to kill cricket. Will banning of live coverage of cricket (IPL and international matches) produce more Olympic champions? If so, then I stand with them demanding ban of IPL and live coverage of cricket. A sportsperson's career is small and I see nothing wrong if he/she earns big by plying their trade with the franchise leagues, after all sports is a profession.

Self-defence classes

Through the columns of your esteemed daily I would like to draw the attention of the school authorities to provide self-defence classes along with other subjects. Criminal cases against women are rising day by day, especially with the young girls. It is high time the education made it compulsory for all schools to provide self-defence classes as it will help them to save themselves from the evils in society.

Crowded city buses

The excessive number of passengers travelling in city buses is an alarming and concerning issue in a pandemic situation. The crowd comprises young and old passengers. This is a serious matter insofar as the spread of COVID-19 is concerned. Crowded buses are also prone to accidents. Lack of consciousness and social responsibility among people is leading towards a huge concern in the near future. The situation will affect mostly the daily-working passengers and the students who travel by buses.

Rules serve no purpose until and unless every individual becomes aware and concious of his/her social duties. It is high time the authorities concerned did something tangible to improve the situation.

Pleasant surprise

After a long time we had the opportunity to hear a clarion call by our ex-Prime Minister Manmohan Singh as he appealed to the voters of the state to cast their votes wisely. For Manmohan Singh's information we Axomiya people have become very wise during the 15-year rule of the Congress. His last address to the people of Assam was during the 2019 parliamentary elections and that time too people listened to him and cast their votes wisely. Hopefully we shall again hear from the former Rajya Sabha MP from Assam in 2024 or 2026.

Smoking in
public places

Through this column of your esteemed daily I would like to draw the attention of the authority concerned towards those who smoke in public places. We find people smoking in front of schools and colleges, a practice that doesn't augur well for the students. Recently, I saw a group of 4 boys who frequently smoke in front of Cotton University. It looks very bad. There are 'No Smoking' signboards everywhere but we find few takers of this directive amongst the youngsters. If the authorities concerned and the general public keep an eye on this menace, the situation may take a positive turn.

'Insulting'

In an election rally, AIUDF president Badruddin Ajmal threw the pride of Assam, Gamosa in full public view in a fit of anger. The indigenous people of the State view Ajmal as a threat to the Axomiya culture. Now this has been proved beyond doubt. No leader from the Congress came forward to criticize or condemn the act. Equally silent on the issue are at MP Ajit Bhuyan and BPF president Hagrama Mohilary. Surprisingly, our 'jatiya sangathans' like the AASU and the AJYCP are also maintaining a stoic silence on it. Wearing a gamosa around the neck is a pride for us but for Ajmal it is an ordinary thing which can be thrown out in a fit of anger or frustration.
