Untold story of corruption

The 15 long years rule of Tarun Gogoi has left behind loads of filth only to be cleaned by the successive government. Loot and corruption were made organised businesses. Encroachment of forest land, government land or xatra land were given green sigl for their political benefits. The recent eviction drive conducted under the direction of Court orders in Amchang forest where innocent people suffered is all because of the misrule of the Congress government. Why were people made to settle in the forest land? Can the Gogoi administration claim to be innocent? Of course not! This is because his ministers and MLAs arranged the settlement of those people there. Ripun Bora and company who went there to take stock of the situation and shed crocodile tears, rightly got the fitting response from the public as they were chased away by the irate public. It is not for nothing that people say: As you sow, so shall you reap. The list of misdeeds of the previous governments is enormous and sadly enough the common people are made to suffer.

Amchang & tall talks

Amchang eviction is now a hot topic. Many are supporting the victims. Opinions are being presented by our intellectuals. Many organisations have already started their agitation against this eviction drive. In our country, common people are always neglected. But at the time of election they are emotiolly blackmailed and motivated using various ways to seek their mandate.  The victims of eviction also fall in this category. Under this process most of the genuine indigenous people have lost their homes. Yes, the government should also arrange an altertive for these genuine 'no-land' people. It is a fundamental right of everyone. But, not at the cost of ecological balance. I am not a famous writer or a renowned intellectual who can take decisions on behalf of the Assamese people.  But I feel this type of situation arises only because of the lack of self respect of the Assamese people. Villagers particularly the young generation is migrating to Guwahati by selling their agricultural land only to be a driver, security guard in a shopping mall or to be an owner of a paan shop. The womenfolk instead of helping their family in their rural agricultural sector, love to open a tea stall in the footpath and some of them are even serving as household helper in the urban locales. I wish to ask our intellectuals: Can't you guide and motivate our youths to take part in the state's development instead of taking part in T.V discussions.

We should always encourage good deeds rather than focussing on solely on land acquisition in the forest reserve areas. The media too has a lot to do.While we are repeatedly informed of the Power Minister speaking about the frequent shortages in electricity supply, on the other hand we are yet to get adequate information of developments taking place in and around the hills of Guwahati. Anybody encouraging the innocent people to do some unethical activities must be booked as per law. My appeal to the intellectuals is: Please enlighten our youth by encouraging them to be educated and stand beside them so that their potential can be tapped for the state's, region's and the country's development.
