Audacity!

So far with my limited knowledge, the all-time best parliamentarians are concerned a few names usually come to our mind. They are Lt. Hem Baruah and Bharat Ratna. Lt. Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Lt. Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Lt. Dinesh Goswami, and others, to name a very few. When they spoke in parliament, they kept the entire House in hush silence as they never spoke any nonsense like today’s MPs. They raised and debated issues that were of vital importance to the nation. They always put the interests of the nation above those of their political parties, to which they belonged.

We all understand that a comparison which is fair is usually made between two of almost same quality. Very recently, Assam’s most controversial person in state politics, Bhupen Bora, again in his usual style like Rahul Gandhi in national politics, had the audacity to compare Gaurav Gogoi with Lt. Hem Baruah as an MP. This very act has once again proved his lack of sense, knowledge, respect, and love towards the sons of the soil, which he exhibited in Gorukhuti while protesting against the eviction drive against the illegal encroachers. I sincerely hope that by this time, Gaurav Gogoi has been able to differentiate between a male and female fish. Who knows by tomorrow he might even compare himself with Bharat Ratna Lt. Gopinath Bordoloi.

Dr. Ashim Chowdhury,

Guwahati.
