Survey
of JJM schemes
The State Government is surveying to ascertain if every family with a water supply connection under the JJM (Jal Jeevan Mission) gets water. The survey will be over by this month. If necessary, the government will take corrective measures in sync with the survey data. Complaints from some areas against not getting water have necessitated the survey. (See the front-page report of The Sentinel in its December 8, 2022, issue).
It is the right move on the part of the department. The responsibility of the government does not end simply by implementing a scheme. It has to see if the scheme benefits the target population.
The Sentinel report said that the government entrusted local self-help groups to conduct a door-to-door survey to see if all families with JJM water connections get water. The report also mentioned that the government would take corrective measures based on the survey data. The government will send students to see the schemes under the JJM. Like Gunotsav, officials will hop from village to village to inspect water-supply schemes under the JJM. So far, so good! But one has to keep tabs on the entire process if everything goes as said.

Upsets galore
The ongoing FIFA Football World Cup will and should be remembered by all soccer-crazy fans for two reasons. For the first time, a woman referee was inducted to officiate games. Secondly, there are upsets galore. It was Saudi Arabia that started the process followed by Japan and Cameroon. Argentina, Germany, Brazil, Spain, and Belgium were the victims. It was very pertinent to note the presence of African nations like Cameroon, Senegal and Morocco who made remarkable impressions in the world's soccer once dominated by European and Latin American nations for decades in spite of their lack of infrastructures and sponsors in their backyard. Asian nations Japan, South Korea and Saudi Arabia have already become a force to reckon with in world soccer. Yours truly is an ardent soccer fan have also started dreaming to see India qualify for the final draw of World Cup football and create an impression. May Almighty fulfil my dream. Amen.
