Local Vendors Deprived by PSEs

The Union Government has a policy of encouraging MSMEs, local suppliers and vendors. Directives are also issued to Central Public Sector undertakings, including financial institutions like banks, nationalized insurance companies, etc. to go for local tenders, with advertisements in local vernacular dailies. However, it has come to notice that some vested interests are conniving with some unscrupulous officials in Guwahati and other parts of Assam to deny and prevent local vendors from supplies, contracts, etc. Guidelines and rules are bent so that vendors and suppliers based in Kolkata and other places get preference. This kind of practice is more prominent in institutions like LIC, UBI and other institutions. When the Modi Government is taking steps to promote MSMEs, such steps are in contravention.

The Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) should take steps so that such a nexus is investigated and the truth revealed.
