Northeast is Rising

The Northeastern region of India is anyway India’s sunrise region. The first rays of the sun fall upon Arunachal Pradesh, the easternmost state of the country, and the village of Dong has been long recognized as India’s first sunrise village. While the region had long remained neglected and sidelined by successive Congress governments at the Centre since Nehru had developed a China-phobia after the 1962 aggression, it is the present BJP-led regime at the Centre, headed by the most dynamic and forward-looking Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which has taken unprecedented steps to put the region on the top of the priority list of the government. While lakhs or crores of rupees have been pumped into the region for undertaking various infrastructure and development projects, the initiatives taken by the BJP-led government in Assam too have followed in the footsteps of New Delhi to create an environment conducive for investments in the region in the true sense of the term. Two successive Advantage Assam initiatives, organized in 2018 and 2025, have not only drawn the attention of all the big names in the industrial world of India to the region but have also convinced many of them to actually invest here. The Rising North East Investors’ Summit 2025, which was flagged off by the Prime Minister in the national capital on Friday, is the latest big event that promises to take the region in the right direction in the decades to come. As the Prime Minister has said, there was a time when the North East was merely called a frontier region. He has rightly pointed out that today it is emerging as the ‘Front-Runner of Growth’ in the entire country. The Prime Minister has rightly highlighted the vast potential spanning trade, tradition, textiles, and tourism, stating that the region’s diversity is its greatest strength. He remarked that the North-east is synonymous with a thriving bio-economy and bamboo industry, tea production and petroleum, and sports and skill, as well as an emerging hub for eco-tourism, which is also very significant. He is right when he says that the Northeast embodies the essence of Ashtalakshmi, bringing prosperity and opportunity. With this strength, he stated, every Northeastern state is declaring its readiness for investment and leadership.
