The electrical crematorium constructed by the Guwahati Development Department was inaugurated a few days ago at Ulubari in Guwahati. This kind of crematorium is eco-friendly. Consigning human bodies to flame by using wood is actually a threat to the environment. In this context I would like to request the Government to set up eco-friendly electrical crematorium in each and every district headquarters of Assam. I would also like to state that nowadays solar crematorium is considered more eco-friendly than electrical crematorium. Solar crematorium is in operation in some parts of India. Our country is situated in such a high solar energy belt that it has almost 300 clear sunny days in a year thus solar crematorium is more conducive and eco-friendly. Of course, during foggy winter and rainy days for smooth operation of such crematorium the chamber should be designed in such a way that other alternative fuel like biogas, LPG, CNG can be used, if required. The construction of solar or electrical crematorium is expensive. Therefore, the Government may appeal to the multinational or giant business houses to contribute funds for the setting up of such crematorium under corporate social responsibility clause of the Companies Act, 2013.
