COVID-19: Salman Khan takes care of 25,000 Bollywood wage workers
Mumbai : In a humanitarian move, popular actor Salman Khan has, reportedly, announced that he would help financially around 25 thousand daily wage workers of the Mumbai film industry during the current nationwide lock-down. Informing this, Federation of Western Indian Cine Employees (FWICE) president BN Tiwari said that the actor’s Being Human Foundation has come forward to help survive the workers during the lockdown, announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to check the novel coronavirus pandemic. The lock-down ends on April 14, 2020. It has been reported that the lockdown hit hard the daily wage labours across the country. As such, Salman has decided to help the film industry workers so that they can cross over the tide. “We have about 5 lakh workers out of which 25,000 are in dire need of financial help. Being Human Foundation said they will take care of these workers on their own. They have asked for account details of these 25,000 workers as they want to ensure that money reaches them directly,” said FWICE president Tiwari. He further said the remaining 4,75,000 workers can survive for about a month. Before him another popular actor from Bollywood, Akshay Kumar, joining the country’s war against the pandemic, donated Rs. 25 crore to the PM’ CARES Fund. Meanwhile, number of COVID-19 infected people in India spiked to 1055 and 27 people died in the pandemic, so far.
